This is a study of 15th century decorative ornamentation of the hideous and humorous. Many grotesques can be seen in Europe and originally the Italian grottesco means "of the cave" where paintings and fresco were found on lower level Roman ruin walls of the 15th century. At that time the more absurd and bizarre the artist's imagination, the higher he was rated. Later the design arrangement with garlands and fantastic human and beast figures became more of a symmetrical pattern around architectural framework.
I just love the surprise of a mysterious unearthly face in a garden...
